Guided tours

Frank Lloyd Wright lived in Oak Park for twenty years, and the neighborhood still shows how he learned to build low, long and quiet, with a front door you have to find.

Begin at Unity Temple, a church poured in concrete with no door on its street side. Follow Forest Avenue past the Thomas House, the brick stripes of the Heurtley House and a half-timbered Tudor that Wright rebuilt after a fire.

Then turn to Chicago Avenue, where a row of turreted houses brings in Louis Sullivan, and the secret commissions behind Wright's break with him. Finish across from his own Home and Studio.

Nine stops, about 1.4 km and 70 minutes, in English and at your own pace. Houses are seen from the public sidewalk. Entry to Unity Temple and the Home and Studio is not included.
