Discover the rich tradition and unique characteristics of Ligurian wines in an exclusive tasting experience led by a local wine expert. This immersive session offers a deep dive into the world of Ligurian winemaking, focusing on four handpicked wines that represent the essence of the region's distinctive viticulture. You’ll explore both whites, like Pigato or Vermentino, and reds such as Rossese or wines from the Cinque Terre, all while learning the art of tasting like a true sommelier. The session begins with an introduction to Liguria's winemaking heritage, where you'll learn about the region's heroic vineyards. These vineyards are known for their steep, terraced landscapes, often perched dramatically on cliff sides, making their cultivation a feat of both skill and dedication. This type of extreme viticulture, or "vigneto eroico," is a hallmark of Liguria and adds a unique character to the wines produced here.Your expert guide will walk you through the tasting of four wines, offering insights into each grape variety, or vitigno, and the particular features that make Ligurian wines so distinctive. You'll delve into the characteristics of white wines like Pigato, known for its minerality and freshness, and Vermentino, a bright, aromatic wine with hints of citrus and herbs. For the reds, you'll explore Rossese, a soft, medium-bodied wine with delicate fruity notes, and perhaps a rare red from the steep vineyards of Cinque Terre, where the terroir heavily influences the wine's bold yet refined flavors. As you taste each wine, your host will discuss not just the grape varieties but also the winemaking processes, or vinificazione, that bring out the best in each wine. You’ll gain an understanding of how Ligurian winemakers have honed their craft over centuries, using traditional techniques adapted to the region’s challenging terrain. From grape selection to fermentation methods, you’ll learn how these factors shape the final product in your glass.Food pairings, or abbinamenti, will also be a key focus of the session. Ligurian wines are famously food-friendly, and your expert will offer tips on how to pair each wine with traditional Ligurian dishes or other cuisines. Whether it’s matching a crisp Vermentino with seafood or a smooth Rossese with a pasta dish, you’ll come away with ideas to enhance your own dining experiences.Throughout the tasting, you’ll also be taught the techniques professional sommeliers use to evaluate wines. From assessing the wine’s color and clarity to detecting its aroma and flavor profiles, you’ll learn how to taste and appreciate wine at a deeper level. This experience is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, so whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or a curious beginner, you’ll feel comfortable exploring the nuances of Ligurian wines. The setting for the tasting is relaxed and welcoming, allowing you to fully enjoy each glass while deepening your appreciation of Italy's diverse wine culture. By the end of the session, you’ll not only have a newfound knowledge of Ligurian winemaking but also a deeper understanding of how to approach wine tasting with confidence. This is more than just a tasting—it's an exploration of a region’s passion for wine, a hands-on lesson in sommelier techniques, and an opportunity to savor some of the best wines Liguria has to offer.
